Editors' Quick Thoughts

Now you're in the big leagues heading towards upper management or even a C-level position. CISSP is the gold standard for security management certifications. This credential is widely known by both techs and non-techs. It is always near the top of Salary Surveys. Keep a close eye on business cards... if you only have space for 1 or 2 certs, this one always makes the cut. It takes a lot for that prestige - long, difficult exam & numerous requirements before and after the test - but it's worth it for the serious security professional career.

From the Horse's Mouth ((ISC)² Web Site Content):

As the first ANSI ISO accredited credential in the field of information security, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSPreg;) certification provides information security professionals with not only an objective measure of competence but a globally recognized standard of achievement. The CISSP credential demonstrates competence in the 10 domains of the (ISC)² CISSP® CBK®.

The CISSP credential is ideal for mid- and senior-level managers who are working toward or have already attained positions as CISOs, CSOs or Senior Security Engineers.

As a CISSP, you gain access to (ISC)² services and programs which support and enhance your growth throughout your information security career. These services and programs include:

  • ongoing education
  • peer networking
  • forums
  • events
  • job postings
  • industry communications
  • concentrations for proven subject matter expertise
  • speaking and volunteer opportunities
